Contemporary home decor often gives a nod to mother nature, incorporating natural materials either in their raw form or treated. One contemporary trend which I absolutely love are those table lamps with their base’s made of/covered in branches or driftwood. Sometimes they can be found in their natural brown-beige colour, other times they are painted silver, white or even other vibrant colours. One thing’s for sure though, they are quite pricy to purchase, but so EASY to make. Here’s how I made mine (and what’s funny is that even though I made it in a crazy rush just before hosting a big party in my new home, and I think I did a sloppy job because I was in such a rush, still no one could tell on their own that I made it until I had told them and they took a closer look.)
Supplies:
- Simple lamp base: I got one with cylindrical neck and flat base from Bouclair Maison, like the one seen here https://www.bouclair.com/10284-Mix-And-Match-Lamp-Base.aspx#
- Branches or driftwood : you can use whatever you can find. My mother had just trimmed her tree so I got these branches from her
- Hand saw
- Spray paint: I chose silver
- Glue gun
- Lamp shade (if you didn’t get one with your lamp base)
Instructions:
Not much to say here cause it’s really simple, but basically:
- Mesure the length of the lamp base neck (the length of the cylindar))
- Cut your branches to that length with your saw
- Spray paint the branches, covering everywhere evenly (I did my project in the summer so I did this outdoors)
- Once your branches are dry, simply begin by gluing the first branch to the base, then add on subsequent branches to surround the entire “neck” by gluing the branches both to the base and to each other, discretely, just using small glue beads such that they can’t or can barely be seen when dry.
- Voila, we’re done
